WayPick 2 is a robotic golf ball picker for driving ranges. It collects balls, unloads them at a designated point and then resumes its collection route automatically. Golf course managers decide when and where it should operate, whether during the day, overnight or according to a specific schedule. With WayPick 2 handling the routine collection cycle, staff have more freedom to focus on golfers, presentation and the wider operation. Two Portuguese golf facilities show how WayPick 2 can support different needs.

Monte Rei Golf & Country Club: Raising Standards Every Day
At Monte Rei Golf & Country Club in Portugal’s Algarve, maintaining high standards is part of the club’s everyday approach. Its Jack Nicklaus Signature North Course has twice been named Portugal’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards.
Since September 2026, WayPick 2 has been operating on the club’s driving range, where around 4,000–5,000 balls are used each day. The robot supports the club’s daily ball-collection routine, helping maintain the high standards expected at Monte Rei.
That experience has also given the club confidence to consider how automation could support its wider goals. Tim Owers, Director of Golf at Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, explains:
“At Monte Rei, we’re always looking for ways to improve and elevate our standards. With automated golf ball collection and unloading already in place, our next step is to upgrade to automated ball washing and transportation. These improvements will allow our Golf Operations team to focus even more on serving our members and guests by ensuring we deliver the best golfing experience available.”

Vidago Palace Golf Resort: Keeping the Range Ready for Tournament Days
When Vidago Palace hosted the Super Bock Ladies Open in October 2026, its driving range had to stay ready for players throughout the tournament. The event, part of the LET Access Series, brought continuous activity to the range while the team managed players, visitors and the wider demands of tournament week.
WayPick 2 kept pace with the practice range’s daily demand throughout the event, allowing staff to focus on more specialised responsibilities.
Paulo Ferreira, Golf Director at Vidago Palace, shared his experience:
“Using the WayPick 2 robot during the Super Bock Ladies Open gave us the opportunity to explore the potential of automated ball collection during a major event. It was a great help to our team, freeing staff to focus on more specialised, higher-value tasks and helping us manage operations more effectively throughout the event. The solution has great potential to improve operational processes, reduce the need for manual intervention and make the practice range more efficient. It is a valuable step towards modernising golf course operations.”
After seeing how WayPick 2 performed during the tournament, Vidago Palace is now considering WayPick 2 as part of its 2027 investment plans.

The Next Step in Autonomous Golf
Beyond WayPick 2, Wayrobo's product range also includes solutions for larger driving ranges and routine bunker maintenance. WayPick 6 is designed for larger, more open driving ranges, with six picking units and capacity for up to 6,000 balls per cycle. WayRake 9 is an autonomous bunker-raking robot designed for routine course maintenance. It can cover nine holes on a single charge, recharges automatically and varies its routes to help distribute sand more evenly. Together, these new products mark Wayrobo’s next step towards bringing autonomous technology to more golf facilities.
