How the WayPick App Helps Driving Ranges Manage Robotic Ball Collection Process

For any driving range, collecting golf balls is a daily task that takes time, planning and staff attention. The collection plan can change from morning to afternoon depending on golfer numbers, weather, turf conditions and maintenance work.

The WayPick App helps golf facility managers organise that work around the way their range actually operates. It is not the machine doing the collecting itself. Instead, it gives staff a simple way to set boundaries, plan tasks and manage the WayPick 2 robot throughout the day.

Create a clear map for safer operation

Every driving range has areas that need special care. There may be ponds, flags, signs, equipment, uneven ground or sections of turf that should be avoided.

Using the WayPick App, managers can mark the working area, charging station and unloading point on a digital map. They can also create transit zones, set permanent no-go areas and highlight hot spots where balls tend to gather.

Once the map is set up, the robot has a clear understanding of where it should work and which areas it must avoid. Managers can build the course’s safety rules into the system once, then use them as the foundation for future collection tasks.

Choose the right collection plan for the job

The same collection plan does not suit every situation. Early in the morning, the priority may be to clear the areas with the highest concentration of balls. At another time, the range may need a more complete clean-up over a larger area.

The app gives managers two practical ways to approach the task. Quick retract focuses on clearing key or ball-heavy areas in less time. Full area coverage guides the robot across the entire area for a more thorough collection.

Managers can also divide the range into separate areas, such as Area 01 and Area 02, and decide which sections the robot should work on each time. This makes it easier to match the collection plan to the day’s priorities.

Adapt the robot to the course conditions

Different parts of the range may require different working styles. Efficient mode can help clear busy areas quickly, while Balanced mode provides a more even approach. When the turf needs extra care, Turf Care mode uses gentler routes and wider turns to reduce unnecessary pressure on the grass.

Managers can set up temporary no-go zones in advance and choose whether to enable them when starting each task. This allows staff to keep the robot away from a busy tee line during peak hours, avoid wet ground after heavy rain or close off an area during turf maintenance.

The map stays consistent, but the daily plan can change in just a few taps.

Schedule collection around golfers

Ball collection should support the golfer experience, not interrupt it. WayPick App allows managers to arrange single tasks or multiple collection periods throughout the day.

For example, the robot can collect balls after the range closes, return to its charging station and then complete another task during the early morning hours. This helps keep the range ready for the next day while reducing disruption during busy periods.

Managers can monitor the robot’s route, progress, battery level and current status directly in the app. If a golfer enters the working area or plans change unexpectedly, staff can pause or stop the task immediately.

Keep everyday operation simple

A course manager may need access to detailed routes, schedules and working preferences. A staff member on duty may only need to select an approved plan and start the robot.

Easy Mode is designed for that everyday situation. It keeps the main actions visible while hiding advanced settings, making routine operation quicker and easier for the whole team.

The WayPick App brings the different parts of autonomous ball collection together: mapping the course, choosing different picking mode, adapting to turf and traffic conditions, scheduling work and monitoring progress.

The result is a more flexible way to manage the WayPick 2 robot. Managers remain in control of the plan, staff spend less time dealing with repetitive setup, and golfers can enjoy a cleaner, better-prepared range with less interruption.
